October is lake prime time

We think fall is one of the best Lake Martin seasons

Over the last year, 429 waterfront properties sold on Lake Martin (according to local MLS statistics). That means that we have lots of new lake friends! Now, it occurs to us that most of these new lake owners think that the best time on the lake is the spring and summer season. That is just not true. If the world only knew how beautiful it is here in the fall, we would have 1,000’s of new property owners this year!

Real lake lovers can’t wait for Labor Day to come and go, so they can begin to enjoy this best of all seasons. For the “newbies” out there, we have compiled a few reasons why we think fall is one of the best, if not the best time, to be at Lake Martin.

No crowds
Summer time brings lots of boaters to the lake. Lots of boaters mean lots of boats, but fortunately, Lake Martin is a very large lake. It is especially spectacular to boat in the fall on a Saturday afternoon with the lake comparatively to yourself. Sure, there are a few other boats on the lake, but just enough to keep from getting lonely.

Patio dining at SpringHouseRestaurants such as SpringHouse and Kowaliga are very popular, and you don't want waiting times to take away from relaxation time. In the fall, dining opportunities are expanded with outdoor seating as a viable option in the cool fall air. Is there a better place to enjoy a fine meal than SpringHouse’s outdoor terrace at sunset?

The weather is fine
Summer means sun, heat and a cool dip in the lake. Fall means, brisk mornings, pleasant afternoons and serene evenings. Best of all, rainfall is rare in Alabama in the fall. Daily temperatures in the mid-60s or 70s, with no rain and plenty of sunshine, is perfect weather to get out and enjoy the endless miles of trails in the Russell Forest or to enjoy that sunset cruise as the colors of the trees start to glisten with oranges and golds.

The water is inviting
Many people think that getting in the lake is not as enjoyable in the fall as it is in the spring or summer. Actually, it might be the best time to get in the lake. During the spring, the lake is still cool following the winter. But the summer warms that water enough to allow for enjoyable water activities into the fall as well.

Lake levels also allow for extended boating opportunities. While the Power Company does begin the drawdown of lake levels in the fall, it takes three full months to gradually bring the lake down to winter pool levels. Like many lake lovers, we look forward to next fall when the Power Company might be able to keep higher pool levels into October and through the winter.

Lake Martin enjoys a gorgeous fall foliage season. Some neighborhoods like Willow Glynn have impressive stands of mature hardwoods which produce a spectacular array of fall colors. You don’t have to go to New England to get a taste of color—we have plenty here at Lake Martin.

Enjoy the great outdoors
Over the past several years, we have seen lots of people construct outdoor fireplaces, firepits and screened outdoor living spaces (complete with big screen football TVs). What better time of the year than fall, and what better place than Lake Martin can you choose to take advantage of those features?

We spend a lot of time creating places to enjoy the lake 12 months out of the year. We invite you to take advantage of Russell Lands On Lake Martin this fall to enjoy the great outdoors, to spend quiet time on the lake or in your lake home and to reconnect with your family. If you don’t have a lake place yet, fall is the perfect time to find one. Call one of our Sales Executives at 256.215.7011 to find out what we have to offer today.
