Fall Family Festival 2015 at Russell CrossroadsFall Family Festival
Saturday, October 31, 10 am–1 pm
The Town Green at Russell Crossroads

In the Russell Forest, the leaves are turning those fun fall colors and, although subtle, there is a hint of a chill in the air. It’s PERFECT outside for the annual Fall Family Festival at Russell Crossroads! The festival has drawn people from as far away as Illinois and is a great time for the family, especially the kids. The smiles get so big as they watch the blacksmith hammer out nails, crosses and even knives. It’s easy to get tickled, as they cover their ears listening to the thump thump of the hit-and-miss engine that powers the gristmill, turning corn into meal.

The scavenger hunt not only takes them by the Blacksmiths Shop and gristmill, but this year, every child will be given a key that just might open the treasure chest for a secret prize! We’ve added ice cream and, for the older “kids,” the Scary Mary Bar has moved to SpringHouse restaurant, where they are also open for Brunch!

Back on the Town Green, judging for Pie (baking, not eating) and Canning Contests gets underway at noon! So, pull out your grandmother’s blue ribbon recipes for pies, pickles, fig preserves, jams, jellies or whatever, and enter your favorites in the competition.

The Windermere Fire Department will have a firetruck on hand with goodies for the kids and, as live music fills the air, you can paint pumpkins, pull a duck from the pool, bob for apples and make your own personal scarecrow. (Bring an old adult shirt and pants to dress your scarecrow.) And don’t forget face painting, pony rides, hot dogs, boiled peanuts and popcorn, too!

It’s family fun for all ages and the best part is, it’s only $25 per family of four. Make plans to join us for what promises to be a great day in the sunshine!
