This year marks the third year of the Russell Forest Run 5K and 10K races and after party. Each year we've seen significant growth in the number of runners, and February 25 is expected to be more of the same. Maybe it's the uniqueness and beauty of the course through Russell Forest.

"The Russell Forest Run gives runners a different look from the traditional, flat-street run," said race organizer, Robert Gunn. "The course, constructed of clay, sand, and gravel, was designed for electric cars and bicycles and is much softer and more forgiving than asphalt. The comments that I received in 2011 from people who had never seen the Russell Forest or Russell Crossroads, were very complimentary."

“Great race. Beautiful weather and beautiful course. Big hills but the scenery is so worth it. Organized well, I highly recommend and will for sure do it next year!"
— etr319 from Alexander City

"I loved it. It was my first 10k.The event was organized very well.  I thought the trail was well marked and the people along the way shouted out times as we passed, some even cheered and encouraged us. I also enjoyed the shirt, packet and party afterwards.  It was also nice for my family to walk around and see the sites while I was racing. I would love to return and compete in this event next year.  (I want to beat my time.)"
— Cindy from Florida

"Had a great time. 10K and 5K options. Digital clock/shoe tag technology. It was a WONDERFUL day for the race. Course was well-marked and very challenging, particularly for those of us used to street races. After-party had delicious food and beer. Overall, a great time! Well worth the 45 min. drive from Montgomery.”
—Kelly from Montgomery

"The laid back feel of Russell Crossroads with its town green, Catherine’s Market, SpringHouse, The Stables and the Discovery Center are so inviting that people just loved being here," Gunn continued. "The run is for a very good cause, The Alexander City Schools Education Foundation, where last year we were able to give $6,000 for use in the local schools. And it gives us a chance to expose even more people to the Russell Forest, Russell Crossroads, and ultimately Russell Lands On Lake Martin."
