Russell Lands On Lake Martin brings on "Naturalist"
Russell Lands On Lake Martin would like to introduce Marianne Hudson as its new Naturalist and wildlife educator. Marianne is a lifelong student of nature and an avid outdoorsman with over 12 years experience using forests as classrooms. Since graduating as a Wildlife Biologist from the University of Maryland in Baltimore County in 1997, Marianne has spent most of her personal and professional life in the woods. She will be introducing a variety of flora and fauna through specially scheduled Guided Nature Tours to visitors of Russell Lands On Lake Martin.
Marianne is a wildlife rehabilitator licensed by the State of Alabama to raise and release native wildlife. Certain presentations at Russell Lands On Lake Martin will feature these captive animals. Marianne is also a raptor trainer and has been working as a biologist and educator for Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center since 2004 as one of War Eagle’s trainers. Marianne is a passionate falconer who also enjoys deer hunting and reading books on natural history. When not walking the 80 miles of beautiful trails in the Russell Forest, she’s enjoying them from horseback.
Guided Nature Tours can be scheduled through the Russell Crossroads Adventure Center at 256.215.7094 .
If you have questions for Marianne, she can be contacted at 256.496.2710 or [email protected].
Fourth of July guided nature tour
Please join Russell Lands On Lake Martin and Marianne to celebrate the Fourth of July by examining “Nature’s Independence Day.” Midsummer marks not only our nation’s independence, but also that of our young wildlife. This Guided Nature Tour will focus on discussing when local wildlife reach their age of sovereignty and learn to live apart from their parents. Each of our many native species has a different skill set to master before coming of age. Learn about this timeline while hiking one of the Russell Forest trails with our trained Naturalist. The 2.5 mile walk will begin at the Wilson Road Trailhead and last for approximately 90 minutes. Wild animals face either liberty or death - discover more about their struggles for independence!
Please contact the Russell Crossroads Adventure Center at 256.215.7094 for dates, times and details.
For all Guided Nature Tours:

There are no bathrooms on the Forest Trails.
