Just a few years ago, the first Russell Forest Run, to benefit the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation (ACSEF), was run through the Russell Forest. The scenic course sends runners from Catherine’s Market at Russell Crossroads and ends within walking distance of The Stables and the post-race party. Along the way, the chip-timed run follows a course through nature’s beauty marked by hardwoods and luscious green pines.
Certified by the USATF (AL10003JD), the 10K course offers a few hills that are a decent challenge for the intermediate runner, and the 5K route is perfect for the walker, beginner and intermediate! As we approach year five of this run, we invite you to come out and join us. The post-race party and awards ceremony at The Stables features some good drink and food, including the now famous grits bar, and live music!
Registration is open at http://www.russellforestrun.com/register.html . The 10K fee is $40 and runners receive a high tech long sleeve shirt, a great course and fun post-race party. The 5K fee is $20 and runners will receive a short sleeve t-shirt, a fun course, post-race party and awards ceremony.
The awards given for the 10K and 5K are 19 and under, then in ten year age groups to 70, then 70+ and are unique to this event as they are crafted of Russell Forest wood.
