The Great Outdoors
Oh! Freedom!
Oh! 'Possum!
This month, Marianne shows off one of her favorite critters, and our nation's only marsupial, the Virginia Opossum. Her nature tours will also feature the release of some orphaned opossums. After all, it is a month for celebrating independence, right?

Happy 4th of July Weekend! To celebrate our nation’s independence, we will be giving some orphaned opossums theirs! Join Naturalist Marianne Hudson at the Naturalist’s Cabin at any of the above dates and times for an informative presentation about our country’s only marsupial — the Virginia Opossum. After each program, a real live opossum will be released to spend the rest of its days in Russell Forest. This feel-good presentation is great for all ages and a wonderful opportunity to learn about the positive impact that people can have on native wildlife.
And on July 2...
Stop by the Naturalist’s Cabin at any time during the Bow Wow Luau on Saturday, July 2, from 10am – 2pm. Marianne will be on hand with a variety of artifacts from Russell Forest – including a live possum that will be anxiously awaiting its release later that day. In addition to the opossum, there will be touchable items for the kids and an assortment of wildlife treasures and trivia. If you are looking for interesting items to learn from or simply want more information about Russell Forest Trails, stop by and discover what the Naturalist’s Cabin has to offer. Programs include live animals and are appropriate for all ages. No charge - everyone is welcome!
