The Stables at Russell Crossroads
Derby Day at the Stables at Russell Crossroads is this Saturday May 7. Join us for music, a best hat contest, light refreshments, the "Run For The Roses" race and a great time. So, ladies, find the sundresses and pick out your hat. Guys, grab the blazers, khakis, searsucker or polos and join us for another great Derby Day at the Stables.
This year's event will also feature a silent art auction to benefit Relay for Life. Photos from the 2010 event can be viewed here.
And for the kids, a miniature horse!
In honor of Derby Day, kids of all ages will be racing to the Blacksmith’s Shop at Russell Crossroads to pet, groom and learn about something just their size: a miniature horse. A very gentle and very small live horse will be available from 10am - 1pm on Saturday, May 7th for eye-to-eye examination. Children will learn about safety around horses and also discover the features that make a horse’s body so amazing. This tiny horse is less than three feet tall and will amaze you with her perfectly petite hooves and mini musculature. Brushes and other supplies will be on-hand to help visitors interact with the horse. Children are welcome to bring their own apples, carrots or sugary treats for the horse. Please assist in supervising your child in this activity.
Call Naturalist Marianne Hudson at 256-496-2710 with any questions. No charge!
