Russell Forest Run 10K
and 5K comes to Russell Crossroads February 26

Russell Crossroads will be alive bright and early February 26, as runners from all over converge for what is one of the most scenic 10K races in the Southeast. This year's Russell Forest Run also adds a 5K race. Runners from last year's inaugural run through the forest were uniform in their praise for the course and the event.

Once again, Russell Lands On Lake Martin is joining forces with the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation to host the Russell Forest Run Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 7:45AM. The energy behind the Russell Forest Run is to help provide educational tools for students in the Alexander City School System. In our day of proration, teacher cuts and program cuts, Russell Lands On Lake Martin and race sponsors have teamed with the Alexander City Education Foundation to host a challenging race, raise much needed dollars for the local school system and offer runners the chance to experience a challenging race in one of the most beautiful areas in the Southeast – the Russell Forest adjacent to Lake Martin.

From start to finish, the Russell Forest Run measures 10K and carries runners on a USATF certified course (AL10003JD) over gently rolling hills on sand, clay, and gravel roads that were designed for bicycles and electric cars. The scenic route starts at Russell Crossroads, takes runners near Kob’s Knob, up to Heaven Hill and back to the finish line at Russell Crossroads. Following the 10K, there will be a 5K run, which is scheduled to start at 8:45AM near Catherine’s Market at Russell Crossroads. Plus, for race participants, there will be a post-race party at The Stables. And SpringHouse restaurant will be featuring “post run specials” for those looking to refuel after the run.

Runners from across the nation are registering for this race. The 10K runners who register will receive a Russell Athletic high-performance, long sleeve runner’s shirt, and 5K runners will receive a cotton T-shirt, while supplies last.
