Marianne brings her icky, creepy crittersScarecrows crowd Town Green after Fall Family Fest

Nearly 200 people came by the Town Green at Russell Crossroads on October 30th for the annual Fall Family Festival. Kids from 0 to 80 spent the gorgeous fall morning painting pumpkins, having their faces painted, building scarecrows, and eating lots of corn dogs and popcorn.

First Place: Joe the PlumberFace painting on the Town GreenOther activities of the morning included miniature pony rides, a wagon ride, plus our Naturalist, Marianne Hudson. Marianne brought spiders, scorpions, snakes – that the kids (boys and girls) loved to handle -- and her infamous owl, Princess Owl Feather.

The bright red grist mill, powered by its hit and miss engine, ground corn into the type of corn meal that grandma used to use. Over in the blacksmith shop, the red hot coals easily turned pieces of cold iron into near molten metal that was shaped into all sorts of cool things. Based on the number of smiling faces it seemed that everyone had a great time, and they are already looking ahead to the event next year!
