Heirloom tomatoes grown at SpringHouseSlow Food Crossroads a path to good clean food for your family

Several months ago, I began the process of starting a local Slow Food chapter for our area. Within the next couple of days, you will be able to sign up for our local chapter -- Slow Food Crossroads.  Through the process, I have been able to develop relationships with local farmers, government leaders, other chefs and homemakers. What do we all have in common? We care about the future of the food we consume and where it comes from.  Slow Food Crossroads hopes to provide the surrounding area with the ground work for a sustainable food source that we can feel good about, a food source that we feel good about feeding our families.  All food that we consume has a story with it. Whether good or bad, there is a story.  We all consume food daily, and in this day and age, we all have too much on our plates too worry about where our dinner came from.  Slow Food Crossroads wants to connect you, the provider of food for your family, with the local producer of clean, local, fresh food.

Did you know that you can join a CSA and get fresh, local, free-range chicken and eggs here at the lake?  What is a CSA you might ask? Community Supported Agriculture. By joining a CSA, you’re doing two positive things: 1.) supporting a local farmer, and 2.) knowing the source of your food.  Slow Food Crossroads will provide the education needed to provide your family with a good, clean food source. We will connect you with local farmers, government leaders, chefs and other homemakers to create a community that has a local, sustainable food source.  In the coming weeks, we will be announcing a get together during which we can make a formal introduction and begin the journey. I hope to see you all soon.  If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail rmcdaniel@russelllands.com, and I will be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
