Runners at the start of the Russell Forest Run 10K raceHundreds attend the inaugural Russell Forest Run

Saturday February 27th was an awesome day! No, the temperatures didn’t climb into the 60s. Yes, the clouds did cover the sun, and yes, the winds blew from the northwest, but none of that seemed to affect any of those who participated in the inaugural Russell Forest Run. Over 200 runners from all over the southeast registered to run in the 10K. As the last cup of hot chocolate was served at the post-race party, nearly 200 had actually run or walked the complete course. Russell Lands On Lake Martin and the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation teamed together for this fund raising event. As you can see from the pictures that are now posted on Facebook, everyone seemed to have a great time.

Congratulations to all those who participated in the 10K run and the 1 mile fun run. The top three 10K female finishers were: in third place from Alexander City, Abby Fox; in second place from Auburn, Erin Wakefield; and in first place from Montgomery with a time of 45:02, Emily Burwell. The top three 10K male finishers: in third place from Maxwell Air Force Base, Chadwick Sterr; in second place from Auburn, Zalin Smith, and in first place, from Canton, Georgia with a run time of 37:29, Jordan Turner. There were over 40 runners that ran the 1 mile fun run. Awards were given to the top three finishers. Third place went to Ali Richardson of Dadeville, second place went to Alexis Goldhagen of Alexander City; and first place went to Nathan Mitchell of Jackson’s Gap.

Shirts still available
For those of you who are interested, there are a few of the long-sleeve, Russell Athletic high performance shirts and short-sleeve cotton t-shirts left in select sizes. Please email us at russellforestrun@russelllands.com if you would like to purchase one. The long-sleeve performance shirts are just $20 and the cotton t-shirts are $10. Since all money will go to the Education Foundation, there will be a slight charge for shipping.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of those who participated in the run and to all the many volunteers that worked in support of this event. We look forward to seeing all of you next year at the Russell Forest Run.
