The Great Outdoors
Holiday not just for people; love is in the air in Russell Forest
To us, Valentine's Day means dinner dates, cards, flowers, chocolates and making the day about that special someone. In Russell Forest, there's a different annual "love" ritual taking place among the wildlife.
February Guided Nature Tours
Saturday, February 6th, 1:30pm Meet at Wilson Road Trailhead
Saturday, February 27th, 1:30pm Meet at Wilson Road Trailhead
Join Russell Lands On Lake Martin Naturalist, Marianne Hudson, for an educational foray into our winter forest. In February we note both Groundhog Day and Valentine’s Day. Groundhogs are a fairly recent addition to Alabama landscapes: discover why their range is increasing and why we call them whistle-pigs. We will also discuss the love that is in the air at Russell Forest around Valentine’s Day. This month, many species choose their mates and exhibit breeding behavior. It’s not too cold to start thinking about spring, and spring means forest babies. Now some woodland species are turning their thoughts towards romance. How do they choose and court their partners? Some of the similarities between their habits and ours may surprise you. This energetic hike will offer both learning and exercise. Appropriate for warmly dressed participants ages 5 - 105.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Please contact Marianne at 256.496.2710 to inquire and to register.
